Nichole provides program management of Dr. Winslow Hansen’s Western Fire & Forest Resilience
Collaborative
research team. She joined Cary Institute in 2024.

Prior to joining the staff at Cary Institute, Nichole worked for various government agencies and non-
profits as an Interpretive Naturalist for 15 years. In this role she delivered public programs and
environmental education to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. As a Natural Resource Interpreter
she translated the language of science, history and culture to make concepts relevant to participants’
everyday lives, in-turn creating emotional and intellectual connections that foster environmental
stewardship. She has taught hundreds of thousands of individuals in Humboldt County, Yosemite
National Park, Lake Tahoe, San Bernadino National Forest, the San Francisco Bay area and beyond.
Topics of teaching include California water, coast redwoods, climate change, fire, habitats, flora, fauna,
ecology, geology, and other earth systems.

Nichole has volunteered leading, organizing and supporting workshops with the National Association for
Interpretation to provide professional development opportunities. She has presented at regional and
national conferences on programming for people of all abilities and providing programs for the youngest
audiences.

Nichole has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management & Protection: Interpretation &
Environmental Education from Cal Poly Humboldt. She is a California native who relocated to the
beautiful, water-rich state of New York in 2023.
