Cary Institute ecologist awarded by DU in New York

"Ducks Unlimited is honored to recognize Dr. Findlay as we work toward conserving wetlands for waterfowl, wildlife and people."

Dutchess County Chapter awarded its Conservation Award to Dr. Stuart E.G. Findlay, aquatic ecologist at New York’s Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies

The award was presented Sept. 24 during the fourth annual Great Swamp Shoot & Conservation Program at Tamarack Preserve in Millbrook, presented by the Dutchess County Chapter.

Findlay has conducted research on the Hudson River ecosystem for more than 18 years. He is interested in watershed restoration issues and making scientific information more useful for ecosystem management.

"Dr. Findlay’s projects in New York benefit migrating waterfowl and birds stopping here on their voyage throughout the Atlantic Flyway," said Stancy DuHamel, Dutchess County Chapter founder and member. "Ducks Unlimited is honored to recognize Dr. Findlay as we work toward conserving wetlands for waterfowl, wildlife and people."

Findlay and fellow researchers have earned nearly $1 million in research grants for the Cary Institute. He’s active in several organizations, including serving as a board member for the Society for Freshwater Science, a member of the Hudson River Estuary Management Advisory Committee and editor in chief of Aquatic Sciences.

"Ducks Unlimited is widely acknowledged in the science community for its work on preserving wetlands through a variety of mechanisms," Findlay said. "I am honored to receive this award and am looking forward to working with DU to conserve these precious habitats."
