The Tapestry of Science: Engaging Poets, Preachers, and Prisoners as Partners

For the past 30 years, ecologist and author of Between Earth and Sky: Our Intimate Connections to Trees Dr. Nalini Nadkarni has studied the plants and animals that live in the treetops of rainforests on four different continents.

She has explored the poorly-known world of the forest canopy using mountain-climbing ropes, hot air balloons, and construction cranes, and has documented the critical roles that canopy plants play in forest ecosystems.

She has also created programs to bring this information to a diverse range of public audiences, including artists, musicians, urban youth, legislators, and incarcerated men and women. She lives her belief that science and nature belong everywhere and everyone can contribute to the scientific enterprise.
