Nature’s Engineers: A Beaver Ecology Walk

Register

On October 19 at 10am, join Cary Institute Wildlife Biologist Mike Fargione for an interpretive hike exploring the ecology and management of one of nature’s ecosystem engineers, the American beaver. Using examples found on Cary’s 2,000-acre property, we will interpret how beavers have shaped past and current landscapes, explore the rich biodiversity of beaver ponds, and learn about conflicts that arise when beavers reestablish themselves in areas occupied by people.

The event will combine walking on paved and unpaved terrain with car hopping to different parts of the property. Dress for the weather, wear appropriate shoes, and bring water and binoculars, if you have them. Space is limited. Registration is required.
